Renovation of school building<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The City Council urged the city administration
\nyesterday to renovate state junior high school SMP 43 in Mampang
\nPrapatan, South Jakarta, as soon as possible because the delay
\nhas caused the school's students and teachers to suffer.<\/p>\n
Secretary of the City Council's Commission A, in charge of
\ngovernment affairs, Abdoelhamid Notowidagdo, said that it is
\nimportant for the city administration to rebuild the school,
\nwhich is located in a disputed land.<\/p>\n
\"We hope that the school building will be ready in the next
\n1996\/1997 school year,\" Abdoelhamid said.<\/p>\n
Currently, 834 students of the school are forced to study in
\nother locations due to the dispute.<\/p>\n
The problem began when part of the school building was
\nappropriated by the city administration to make way for the
\nconstruction of Mampang flyover.<\/p>\n
However, M. Matun, former head of the Mampang Prapatan
\nsubdistrict, claimed that the land belongs to him and built
\nfences around the 2,200 square meter land, thereby preventing the
\nstudents from entering the school.<\/p>\n
In the meeting the city administration admitted that it has
\nnot had legitimate papers to prove that the land belongs to the
\ncity administration, but based on a Presidential Decree No.
\n7\/1977, land with managed by any subdistrict chief belongs to the
