Rendra's play postponed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Bengkel Teater group of legendary poet
\nRendra will stage performances of Suku Naga (Dragon Tribe) at
\nTaman Ismail Marzuki art center, Central Jakarta, on Sept. 29 and
\nSept. 30 instead of on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23 as originally
\nscheduled.<\/p>\n
The scheduling change was due to a last minute cancellation by
\nEgyptian theater group El-Warsha to perform in Jakarta's Art
\nSummit 1998.<\/p>\n
The summit, considered the most prestigious art festival here,
\nis hosting 15 performance groups from eight countries. Each group
\nperforms for two consecutive days at the art center or Gedung
\nKesenian Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The one-month event opened on Saturday night with a
\nperformance by Gusmiati Suid's Gumarang Sakti dance company at
\nTaman Ismail Marzuki. Alvin Lucier from the United States will
\nstage concerts at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta beginning Tuesday
\nnight.<\/p>\n
Summit organizers are not planning to hold any performances on
\nSept. 23 and Sept. 24 due to El-Warsha's cancellation.<\/p>\n
Saini K.M., chairman of the summit's organizing committee,
\ntold The Jakarta Post that it was impossible to find a
\nreplacement for the foreign group on such short notice.<\/p>\n
Rendra's 1975 play focuses on the mining industry's practice
\nof destroying villages and ethnic cultures in order to build
