        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2014 A number of Islamic religious leaders have expressed\nsupport for President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s measures in running state\npolicy, viewed as aimed at safeguarding sovereignty and national\nintegrity. The stance was conveyed after they attended a gathering with\nthe President and leaders of Islamic organisations at the Presidential\nPalace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Muzani, chairman of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of\nthe Republic of Indonesia, said religious figures understood the\ndirection of the President\u2019s policies as part of defending the nation\u2019s\ninterests. \u2018The President says that what he is doing is for the\nintegrity of the Republic of Indonesia, for the integrity of the\ncountry, and for the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. The ulama\nand kiai understand this as the President\u2019s path taken as right and\nproper,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that in the meeting Prabowo also sought moral support from\nreligious leaders to maintain national unity amid various challenges.\n\u2018Therefore we are all asked to continue giving support and praying that\nwhat the President of the Republic of Indonesia is doing can run well\nand smoothly,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>Support also came from Mohammad Hasib Wahab Hasbullah, the head of\nthe Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang. He said\nthat several government economic programmes show efforts to promote\npeople\u2019s welfare. \u2018In essence I support and appreciate the economic\nprogrammes, and I hope that in the not-too-distant future our people\nwill become increasingly prosperous,\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Marsudi Syuhud, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian\nUlema Council (MUI), assessed that the government is also working to\naddress global dynamics that are increasingly complex, including\ninternational conflicts with broad impacts. \u2018Indonesia will continue to\nstrive to end wars and achieve peace. Therefore, he will exert every\neffort to, firstly, protect our own nation, and secondly, contribute to\ncreating a peaceful world,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Marsudi, ulama will continue to support the government\u2019s\nsteps seen as important for the nation\u2019s interests. \u2018We kiai and\nreligious leaders are enthusiastic to welcome him and support him to\nstrive as hard as possible, both for the advancement of Indonesia and\nfor world peace,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Wahdah Islamiyah Muhammad Zaitun Rasmin also touched on\nPrabowo\u2019s commitment to promoting peace, including the Palestinian\nissue. He said the stance resonates with many religious figures present\nat the meeting. \u2018One spirit that moves us is that his words are for the\ngood of the umat (people), the nation, and also for Muslims around the\nworld, especially in Palestine and other regions. However small the\nopportunity, his words \u201cI am challenged to strive\u201d\u2014that moved us, and we\nall share the same spirit,\u2019 he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian religious figures Jimly Asshiddiqie and Gus Yahya\nhighlighted the Iran-Israel-US conflict.
