        "content": "<p>Religious official held for graft<\/p>\n<p>KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Prosecutors detained the Kolaka<br>\nreligious affairs office head, Halid Laruka, several days after<br>\nhe was suspended from his post for alleged fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Kolaka chief prosecutor Uung Abdul Syukur said on Friday that<br>\nhis office had gathered sufficient evidence to arrest Halid and<br>\ncharge him with embezzling hundreds of millions of rupiah from<br>\nlast year&apos;s haj pilgrimage funds.<\/p>\n<p>A local non-governmental organization, Jaringan Kota, earlier<br>\nreported the case to the Kolaka Prosecutor&apos;s Office, prompting<br>\nthe suspension of Halid from his post.<\/p>\n<p>The group&apos;s charges were supported depositions by other<br>\nofficials of the local religious affairs office, who said that<br>\nHalid had once asked them to sign blank receipts.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2002, a team from the home ministry&apos;s Inspectorate<br>\nGeneral audited the office and found irregularities in the<br>\nspending of pilgrimage funds under Halid&apos;s control. --Antara<\/p>",
