The Net Population Data (DKB) for the second half of 2025, released\nby the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration\n(Dukcapil) of the Interior Ministry (Kemendagri), shows that the\nmajority of Indonesia\u2019s population is Muslim, numbering 251,257,898\npeople (87.15 per cent).<\/p>\n
Christians comprise 21,240,765 people (7.37 per cent), Catholics\n8,861,999 people (3.07 per cent), Hindus 4,781,776 people (1.66 per\ncent), Buddhists 1,994,756 people (0.69 per cent), whilst belief systems\naccount for 99,556 people and Confucians for 78,339 people. Teguh\nSetyabudi, Director General of Dukcapil, stated that Indonesia indeed\nhas hundreds of ethnic groups spanning from Aceh to Papua, each with\nunique cultures, languages and traditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, the Single National Population Data System functions to\nunite information from all citizens, ensuring that Indonesia\u2019s diverse\nfaces are not scattered, but rather integrated into a single database,\u201d\nTeguh said when releasing the Net Population Data for the second half of\n2025, themed \u201cPortrait of Indonesia\u2019s Diversity in a Single National\nPopulation Database\u201d, at Birawa Assembly Hall, Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta,\non Thursday, 12 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Teguh stated that whilst the majority of Indonesia\u2019s population is\nMuslim, the composition of the productive-age population (15\u201364 years\nold) is substantial, reaching 199,026,595 people or 69.03 per cent of\nthe total population. The largest age group falls in the 40\u201344-year\nrange with 14,866,704 people. \u201cThis represents a demographic dividend\nopportunity that must be leveraged to increase productivity and public\nwelfare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Teguh explained that accurate population data serves as the\nfoundation for inclusive public policy, ensuring that all sections of\nsociety are represented. \u201cThis portrait of Indonesia\u2019s national\ndiversity is not merely a statistic, but also official recognition of\nthe existence and contribution of every community to national\ndevelopment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The dominance of the productive-age population opens significant\nopportunities for Indonesia to strengthen economic competitiveness.\n\u201cHowever, this opportunity will only become reality if we are able to\nintegrate population data with cross-sectoral development policies,\u201d\nTeguh said.<\/p>\n
Regarding marital status, 137,007,707 people are recorded as married.\nThose who have never married number 131,713,077 people, divorced\n(living) 5,591,324 people, and widowed 14,002,981 people.<\/p>\n
