Relatives take bodies of alleged robbers by force<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Relatives of two alleged taxi robbers who were
\nshot and killed by police on Thursday have taken the two bodies
\nby force from Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue.<\/p>\n
The family of one of the alleged criminals, Lundo Sitorus, 38,
\neven refused a police request to perform an autopsy for a
\npostmortem report.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, the family of the other victim, Hatoguam
\nSimangunsong, 40, had also taken his body from the morgue after
\nit was partially examined by forensic doctors.<\/p>\n
Dressed in black and mourning, Simangunsong's relatives,
\nincluding his wife, packed the morgue in the morning hours and
\nintended to take the body away for burial.<\/p>\n
\"We need the body for an immediate burial,\" said a relative.<\/p>\n
Bambang Hadi Purwanto, a forensic assistant at the hospital,
\nsaid the morgue finally let relatives take the two bodies after
\nthey signed statements saying they would be responsible for any
\ncomplaints in the future.<\/p>\n
\"Their reason (for taking the bodies) is really unclear,\"
\nBambang said.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Police officer Lt. Col. Ibrahim, who had
\nordered that the two bodies be examined as required by existing
\nprocedures, informed the hospital's forensic department in the
\nevening that he canceled the autopsy.<\/p>\n
Simangunsong and Sitorus were shot dead when they tried to
\nhijack a Spirit taxi.<\/p>\n
According to City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang, the
\ntwo threatened the driver and a female passenger with a knife and
\nsickle.<\/p>\n
Aritonang said the police officers shot the two, who tried to
\nrun away but then turned around and attacked the officers.<\/p>\n
According to forensic assistant Bambang, Simangunsong was shot
\nin the head and right chest, while Sitorus in the back and right
\nleg.<\/p>\n
Simangunsong's wife refused to comment on her husband's death.
\nHer two boys, two and four years old, were also present at the
\nmorgue. The younger refused to eat and remained silent on his
\nmother's lap.<\/p>\n
A family member, who asked for anonymity, said: \"We have no
\ncomment except to think about the fate and future of these two
\nyoung boys.\"<\/p>\n
Simangunsong will be buried at the Menteng Pulo cemetery while
\nSitorus at his hometown in the North Sumatra capital of Medan.
