        "content": "<p>Relatives of missing activists meet with ICRC<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Relatives of missing activists met with<br>\nrepresentatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross<br>\n(ICRC) here yesterday in a bid to press authorities to conduct a<br>\nthorough investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence<br>\n(Kontras), an independent advocate group for relatives of missing<br>\npersons, said the relatives approached the ICRC because they were<br>\nunsatisfied with the snail pace of the authority&apos;s investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We went to the ICRC since the authorities here have been<br>\nunresponsive,&quot; Kontras deputy chairman Dadang Trisasongko told<br>\njournalists at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation office in<br>\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Dadang lamented the fact that authorities had made little<br>\nprogress since they started their investigation last month.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Defense and Security\/Armed Forces Commander Gen.<br>\nWiranto set up a team to investigate the cases. The team includes<br>\nthe Military Police chief, the assistant for security and social<br>\norder and the Armed Forces assistant for intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Dadang said Kontras accompanied relatives of Suyat, Bimo<br>\nPetrus Anugrah, Noval Alkatiri, Yani Avri and Leonardus &quot;Gilang&quot;<br>\nNugroho Iskandar in a meeting yesterday with ICRC officials based<br>\nhere in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Suyat, a student of Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta,<br>\nCentral Java, went missing in February in Surakarta, while Bimo,<br>\na student activist from the Driyarkara School of Philosophy,<br>\nvanished in Jakarta last March.<\/p>\n<p>Noval, a businessman, and Yani, a public transportation<br>\ndriver, went missing during the campaign period for last year&apos;s<br>\ngeneral election, while activist Gilang, who was also known as a<br>\nstreet singer in Surakarta and nearby cities, was found dead in a<br>\nforest area in Magetan, East Java, on May 23 after he was missing<br>\nfor two days.<\/p>\n<p>The spokeswoman of the ICRC office here, Sri Wahyu Endah, told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post that the relatives met with the mission&apos;s deputy<br>\nhead, Pierre Gerber.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will follow up the case on the basis of their<br>\ninformation,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The National Commission on Human Rights has claimed that<br>\nstudent and political activists who went missing were abducted by<br>\na well-organized group.
