Relatively quiet on the graduation front<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Thousands of secondary students celebrated their
\ngraduation day by spray painting their clothes and hair,
\nshowering buses with water and jumping on top of buses. Shopping
\ncenters saw crowds of the untidy students.<\/p>\n
Everything was under control, Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col.
\nHamami Nata said.<\/p>\n
Over 80,000 students from state and private schools sat the
\nexaminations this year.<\/p>\n
Some passersby were painted with multicolored sprays from the
\njubilant youngsters.<\/p>\n
Students from Cikini schools near Jl. Surabaya in Central
\nJakarta were ordered down from the roof of a full Metro Mini bus
\nby police.<\/p>\n
In Kuningan, South Jakarta, others in their scribbled on and
\nspray painted uniforms enjoyed lunch at Pasar Festival, where a
\ncircus was opening.<\/p>\n
Further south, a happy headmaster turned a hose on thousands
\nof his screaming students. The shower has become a tradition
\namong graduates at SMU 70 state high school.<\/p>\n
They once used hoses from the fire brigade, but have shifted
\nto the parks office's hoses because the office has cleaner water.<\/p>\n
After hearing reports from all five mayoralty police chiefs,
\nHamami was satisfied there were no fatalities or serious injuries
\nduring this year's celebration. He said this was thanks to
\ncooperation between school staff and police. Last year a few
\nstudents were injured in a brawl in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
"School staff asked police to help them prevent any problems,"
