Regulation on sale of drugs needed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A regulation is needed in order to curb the
\nillegal distribution of drugs in the capital city, a member of
\nthe city council said.<\/p>\n
"The illegal distribution of drugs in Jakarta needs to be
\nstrictly controlled and for this we need a regulation," member of
\nthe Jakarta City Council's Commission B for economic affairs
\nSubagyo told Antara yesterday.<\/p>\n
Police have recently intensified their campaign against
\nillegal drugs, especially Ecstasy which they believe is widely
\ncirculated in the city.<\/p>\n
According to Subagyo, controlling the distribution of drugs,
\nespecially Ecstasy, is complicated due to the absence of a legal
\nbasis.<\/p>\n
He said that even though there is no special factory in the
\ncountry which produces Ecstasy, people who have some knowledge
\nabout drugs may compose it themselves.<\/p>\n
They could be doctors, students of medical or pharmaceutical
\nschools, he said.<\/p>\n
"They understand about drugs' compositions and might try to
\nmix the substances," he said. He added that this way they could
\ngain much from the sale of the products.<\/p>\n
He said even though the actual price of controlled substances
\nis relatively cheap, they could be sold at a high price if they
\nwere given special names.<\/p>\n
Drugs such as ephedrin, mesoxamine, fenil esprin, amphesamin
\nand casecolceemine are able to alter a users' way of thinking and
\nbehavior.<\/p>\n
