The registration period for the Hoegeng Awards 2026 has officially\nclosed today. Over nearly three months of open registration, detikcom\nreceived thousands of nominations for police officers from the public\nacross various regions in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The Hoegeng Awards 2026 marks the fifth year of detikcom\u2019s\ncollaboration with Indonesian National Police Headquarters to identify\nexemplary police officers. The nomination period for candidates for the\nHoegeng Awards 2026 exemplary police opened on Tuesday (27\/1\/2026).<\/p>\n
During the registration period, detikcom received diverse nominations\nfor police candidates, varying in rank and position, assignment\nlocations, and contributions made. Various stories emerged from these\nnominations, ranging from tales of police officers who voluntarily teach\nin schools or Islamic boarding schools, police handling sexual violence\ncases, extraordinary dedication by police in remote areas, to simple and\nanti-corruption police officers.<\/p>\n
The nominated police candidates will then be curated and matched with\ntheir dedication to the five established categories of the Hoegeng\nAwards: Innovative Police, Dedicated Police, Integrity Police, Police\nProtector of Women and Children, and Border\/Remote Area Police.<\/p>\n
detikcom will also verify all information regarding the Hoegeng\nAwards 2026 candidates. Coverage of the Hoegeng Awards 2026 candidates\nselected according to the registration deadline will continue to be\npublished in the coming days.<\/p>\n

The Hoegeng Awards programme is inspired by the belief of Police\nChief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo that there are still many Indonesian\nNational Police members who possess the exemplary spirit like the late\nformer Police Chief General (Retired) Hoegeng Iman Santoso. General\nHoegeng is a legend of an honest police officer in the country. His name\nis renowned in the satirical joke delivered by the late 4th President of\nIndonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.<\/p>\n
Quoted from the book by Muhammad Zikra titled \u2018Laughing with Gus Dur:\nThe Humour of the Indonesian Kiai\u2019, the satire goes: \u201cThere are only\nthree good police officers. The late Pak Hoegeng, former Police Chief,\nthe police statue, and the sleeping police.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former US Minister of Research and Technology Hikam explained that\nGus Dur delivered this humour in various different contexts. However, he\nsaid, the essence of the humour is a form of criticism towards the\nIndonesian National Police during the Gus Dur era.<\/p>\n
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo does not hesitate to use\nthat satire for self-criticism of the institution he leads. General\nSigit stated that he does not hesitate to punish his subordinates who\nviolate rules, but also prepares appreciation for performing personnel\nwho work well to nurture and protect the public. That statement so far\nhas proven not to be mere empty words.<\/p>\n
In 2025, General Sigit praised the organisation of the Hoegeng\nAwards. General Sigit also did not hesitate to admit that he must\nemulate the award-winning police officers.<\/p>\n
General Sigit said that if he were included in the Hoegeng Awards, he\nis confident he would not pass. Because, according to him, the 2025\nHoegeng Awards recipients are truly extraordinary.<\/p>\n
