        "content": "<p>Region to launch fund<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): The Philippines and southeast Asian neighbors<br>\nBrunei, Indonesia and Malaysia are to launch in July a US$500<br>\nmillion growth fund aimed at spurring economic activity in their<br>\ncontiguous areas, Filipino officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The East Asian Growth Area direct investment fund&apos;s core<br>\ninvestors would be government financial institutions of the four<br>\ncountries which will account for $300 million.<\/p>\n<p>About $200 million will be raised by private placements<br>\nthrough private placement or equity participation involving<br>\nprivate or multilateral institutions, Central Bank officials who<br>\nasked not to be named said.<\/p>\n<p>The fund will serve as an &quot;economic catalyst&quot; by taking part<br>\nas an equity investor in infrastructure and other projects within<br>\nthe sub-region, the officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The growth area involves Borneo, the Philippine island of<br>\nMindanao and nearby areas of Indonesia.<\/p>",
