        "content": "<p>Regents awarded for illiteracy eradication<\/p>\n<p>KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Buton Regent Syafie Kahar and<br>\nMuna Regent Ridwan of Southeast Sulawesi have received<br>\ninternational awards for their meritorious struggle to eradicate<br>\nilliteracy in their regions.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Rahimin Kantjong of the local Southeast Sulawesi<br>\neducation office said on Thursday that the two regents were<br>\nawarded for their dedication to reducing illiteracy. Both had<br>\nincluded an illiteracy eradication program in their regency<br>\nbudgets, a condition required to obtain the awards, he explained<br>\nfurther.<\/p>\n<p>\"They have contributed much to eradicate illiteracy through<br>\nthe development of informal educational programs during their<br>\ntenures,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were presented by President Megawati Soekarnoputri<br>\nlast week.<\/p>\n<p>Southeast Sulawesi has 59,839 illiterate people aged between<br>\nten and 44 years.
