        "content": "<p>Regent of Bantul to face trial<\/p>\n<p>PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Regent of Bantul Sri Roso Sudarmo is<br>\nscheduled to face military trial on Tuesday on charges of bribing<br>\nlegislative council members to support him for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>Diponegoro military commander Maj. Gen. Bibit Waluyo said on<br>\nMonday the regent, a colonel, will be tried in Semarang.<\/p>\n<p>The regent has been implicated in the murder of Bernas daily<br>\njournalist Fuad Muhammad Syafruddin, or Udin, on Aug. 16, 1996.<\/p>\n<p>He died of wounds resulting from torture and his death was<br>\nlinked to his reports on corruption in Bantul.<\/p>\n<p>Following public demands that the regent be removed from<br>\noffice, Sri Roso has been temporarily suspended.<\/p>\n<p>Bibit denied the court martial would have anything to do with<br>\nFuad&apos;s death, which until now remains unsolved.<\/p>\n<p>People have also demanded the court martial of deputy governor<br>\nDjoko Sudantoko, also a military officer who has allegedly<br>\naccumulated wealth illegally.
