        "content": "<p>Bandung Barat Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail welcomed the West Java\nGovernor Dedi Mulyadi\u2019s circular on controlling land-use changes in\nforest and plantation areas. He said the policy is important to prevent\ndamage to forests and plantations. As is known, West Java Governor Dedi\nMulyadi issued Circular Letter No.\u00a060\/PEM.04.04.01\/ASDA EKBANG, which\nasks regency and city governments to stop permits for tourism and\nhousing development in forest and plantation areas to curb the risk of\nnatural disasters. \u2018We welcome the Governor\u2019s guidance on land-use\nchange control, forests and plantations,\u2019 Jeje said when contacted on\nThursday (21\/5\/2026). Jeje said Bandung Barat has a diverse geographic\ncharacter, ranging from mountainous areas, water catchments to tourist\nzones that require close oversight to prevent land-use changes on a\nmassive scale, especially to avoid damaging the environment. According\nto him, uncontrolled land-use changes could trigger hydrometeorological\ndisasters such as landslides and floods that have lately occurred in\nseveral Bandung Barat areas. The Bandung Barat regency government will\ntighten oversight and permit issuance. \u2018As we know, Bandung Barat has\nvery diverse areas. From mountains, water catchments and several tourist\nareas that still require attention. If uncontrolled land-use changes\noccur, the impacts could cause disasters. In future we will conduct\nsupervision so that development truly complies with spatial planning\nrules,\u2019 Jeje said. In Bandung Barat, the number of outdoor recreational\nsites or outdoor facilities is growing and dominating hillside areas,\nparticularly in pine forest areas. \u2018We understand that development must\ncontinue, but we must also consider environmental impacts. So we aim to\nbalance development and environmental preservation,\u2019 he said. The West\nJava Provincial Government previously issued Governor Regulation No.\u00a011\nof 2025 on Land-Use Change Control, which regulates supervision up to\nland restoration in West Java. Jeje said the region will continue\ncoordinating with the West Java Provincial Government to evaluate and\nsupervise developments that may damage the environment. \u2018We will also\ncontinue coordinating, evaluating, supervising and continue to work with\nthe provincial government,\u2019 Jeje said.<\/p>",
