Regency takes over road repair work<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Tangerang regental administration will take over
\nthe construction of Jl. Raya Pasar Kemis from a developer
\nfollowing the latter's failure to repair a five-kilometer section
\nof damaged road.<\/p>\n
Regent Ismet Iskandar said on Friday that the developer had
\ncollected funds from companies for the road's construction but
\nhad failed to see the project through. Pasar Kemis is home to
\ndozens of the regency's major industries.<\/p>\n
Councillor Nawawi Syahroni of Commission C overseeing
\ntransportation said poor maintenance had contributed to the
\ndeterioration of the road's condition.<\/p>\n
\"We fear residents will block the road, maybe on Dec. 1, as we
\nhave received a threat of that nature,\" he said, adding that
\nresidents of Curug and Cikupa had blocked roads in those
\ndistricts.<\/p>\n
Nawawi also questioned the administration's decision to
\nappoint the developer to maintain the road.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Development Planning Body (Bappeda) head Maryoso
\nsaid the administration had planned to repair some 50 kilometers
\nof damaged roads, connecting Kosambi, Teluk Naga, Pakuhaji,
\nSukadiri, Mauk and Kronjo districts, in January.<\/p>\n
The project would be financed by a Rp 100 billion (US$11.11
\nmillion) loan from Bank Jabar, he said. -- JP<\/p>",
