Regency demolished nine Puncak villas<\/p>\n
BOGOR, West Java (JP): The Bogor regency authority demolished
\nFriday nine luxury villas built without permits in the Puncak
\nhill resort, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
The nine villas, all located in Tugu Selatan village, Cisarua
\nsubdistrict, were estimated to be worth Rp 5 billion (US$2.1
\nmillion).<\/p>\n
The head of Bogor's inspectorate office, Fauzi Si'in, who led
\nthe demolition team, said the buildings were torn down because
\nthe owners had ignored three official orders to demolish the
\nproperties.<\/p>\n
The villas are illegal because they were built in an area
\nearmarked for conservation purposes and as a catchment.<\/p>\n
Friday's demolition brought the total number of Puncak villas
\nbulldozed in the last five months to 40, Antara said.<\/p>\n
Bogor regency says there are around 500 buildings, including
\nluxury villas, that do not have permits.<\/p>\n
\"We urge owners of other buildings and villas to voluntarily
\ndemolish their properties. If the (administration) team does it,
\nthen there will be nothing left of the buildings,\" Fauzi said,
\nAntara reported.<\/p>\n
The Bogor regency administration finally started clamping down
\non illegal properties in Puncak, many of which are owned by
\nwealthy and politically powerful people in Jakarta, after
\nreceiving the green light this year from President Soeharto.<\/p>\n
The failure to control the growth of property in Puncak has
\nbeen blamed for the massive and destructive floods which swept
\nJakarta in February.<\/p>\n
As of July, the Bogor regency has reclaimed and cleared around
\n100 hectares of land.<\/p>\n
Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Saturday that many of the
\nremaining illegal villas that have not been demolished are owned
\nby high-ranking officials in Jakarta, apparently because the
\nBogor administration was still waiting for clearance.<\/p>\n
Fauzi said that all illegal property in Puncak will,
\neventually, be demolished. He said the delays were because the
\nadministration has other priorities. (26)<\/p>",
