The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi\nDasco Ahmad, has addressed the recent meeting between political party\nchairpersons regarding the parliamentary threshold.<\/p>\n
Dasco explained that the meeting was merely in the brainstorming\nstage to align initial views before the discussion of the Election Law\nrevision is undertaken by the factions within the DPR.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meeting of the political party chairpersons was only a\nbrainstorming session regarding the preparations for the discussion of\nthe election law, which will be carried out by the factions in the DPR,\u201d\nDasco told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on\nThursday, 17 September 2026.<\/p>\n
He added that discussions between parties will continue alongside the\nlegislative process, which is expected to be a lengthy endeavour.\nConsequently, the various outcomes emerging from these initial meetings\ncannot yet be regarded as a collective decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis brainstorming is only in its early stages and will continue to\nensure that the discussions by the factions in the DPR can proceed\nsmoothly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dasco also emphasised that no specific figure regarding the\nparliamentary threshold was established during the meeting. He noted\nthat the 5 per cent figure previously mentioned by Gerindra\nSecretary-General Sugiono was merely one outcome of the discussions,\nrather than a final decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince this is brainstorming, there has been no determination yet.\nThe results of those discussions are, among other things, what was\nconveyed by Mr Sugiono. That is all,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
In addition to inter-party discussions, Dasco noted that the DPR is\nalso awaiting the results of public participation conducted by\nCommission II of the DPR as part of the preparations for the Election\nLaw revision.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we from the parties wait, we are also awaiting the results of\npublic participation from Commission II of the DPR, which will precede\nthe discussions and continue to invite public input,\u201d Dasch said.<\/p>\n
He added that inter-party brainstorming will continue in accordance\nwith the dynamics of the Election Law revision process in the DPR.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe discussion process will be long. Naturally, further\nbrainstorming sessions will continue, following the dynamics of the\nongoing discussions,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
