Refugees want resettlement<\/p>\n
PALU, Central Sulawesi: Thousands of Poso citizens temporarily
\nhoused at the Gawalise sports hall in Palu following the outbreak
\nof sectarian clashes in their home town last year, urged that the
\nprovincial administration keep its promise to resettle them soon.<\/p>\n
Mas Bejo, a 50-year-old refugee from Sangira village in the
\ndistrict of Lore Utara, said that he could not stand being
\nunemployed.<\/p>\n
"The more jobless people, the more losses the country will
\nsuffer. If we work, we will be able to feed our families and pay
\ntaxes," Bejo said. "Therefore, the administration must keep its
\npromise to relocate us."<\/p>\n
Echoing Bejo's sentiment, Sumira (40), who was born in
\nYogyakarta, said he didn't want to return to the village of
\nMapane in the district of Poso Pesisir.<\/p>\n
"How can I go home. Everything I owned has been burned," he
\nsaid, adding that resettlement would be the best remedy for the
\nrefugees.<\/p>\n
Deputy head of the provincial office of manpower and
\ntransmigration, Suparyono, acknowledged that the provincial
\nadministration planned to resettle the refugees, starting this
\nyear.<\/p>\n
"The first group will include 800 families," Suparyono said,
\nconfirming that the refugees would be resettled in the villages
\nof Lalundu and Mananili, in the regency of Donggala.<\/p>\n
"Those residing in the restive town of Poso will be resettled
\nin safe areas in the district of Tojo, some 200 kilometers away
\nfrom Poso," he said.<\/p>\n
The regency of Poso has been rocked by sectarian clashes
\nbetween Christians and Muslims. Thousands have been killed since
