Refugees stage hunger strike for aid<\/p>\n
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Dozens of Acehnese refugees living in
\ntemporary shelters in Medan, Deli Serdang, and Langkat, launched
\na hunger strike in front of the North Sumatra Legislative Council
\non Monday to demand the disbursement of Rp 100.5 billion in
\ngovernment funds.<\/p>\n
Twenty-five people, joined the strike that entered the second
\nstraight day on Monday. They vowed to continue their action until
\nthe provincial administration gives them their rights.<\/p>\n
\"They are so calculating in handling the refugees. Everybody
\nknows that the money will yield huge interest if it is kept in
\nthe bank,\" Sumitro, 44, the strike coordinator told The Jakarta
\nPost.<\/p>\n
The fund has been provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, thousands of Acehnese refugees went to the
\ngubernatorial office, demanding that the provincial
\nadministration to disburse the fund without delay.<\/p>\n
Acehnese Refugee Forum (FPAA) coordinator Edy Gunawan Sirait
\nsaid that the refugees had no confidence anymore in the
\nprovincial administration because the fund had been given by the
