Refugee problem to be settled<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz hopes that refugee problems
\ncan be settled by the end of next year, according to Abdul Jalil
\nAS, head of the National Commission on National Reconciliation,
\nRepatriation and Advocacy.<\/p>\n
Abdul Jalil said, after meeting with Hamzah on Thursday, that
\nwhat was meant by "settlement" of the refugees was when all of
\nthem had already returned to their hometowns or had resettled in
\nnew areas without any conflict taking place.<\/p>\n
In a bid to achieve the target, local communities would be
\nencouraged to accept arrivals of their fellow countrymen from
\nother ethnic groups, he said.<\/p>\n
Abdul Jalil quoted Hamzah as saying that by way of
\ncompensation the government would build some public facilities,
\nmainly hospitals.<\/p>\n
Abdul Jalil explained that during the meeting he had also
\nexplained his commission's plan to hold a congress of ethnic
\ngroups at the Haj dormitory in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, from
