Red Cross helps underprivileged<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Some 5,000 youths from the Jakarta Red Cross
\norganized a day of social services for the poor at its head
\noffice on Jl. Kramat Raya in Central Jakarta yesterday.<\/p>\n
The activities included free medical checkups, cataract
\noperations, circumcisions and free spectacles for primary school
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Red Cross spokesman Eko Rianto told The Jakarta Post
\nthat 120 people received free medical services, which were
\nhandled by doctors from the Indonesia Red Cross Headquarters and
\nCity Military Office.<\/p>\n
\"The people who got the free services were registered with our
\nfive subbranches in the city. Priority was given to primary
\nschool children whose parents lack money,\" said Eko.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Red Cross youths were from primary schools and
\njunior and senior high schools from all five mayoralties in the
\ncity.<\/p>\n
The organizers also donated clothes, books and stationery to
\n50 senior citizens and 50 foster children.<\/p>\n
At the same time, a bazaar was held jointly by nearby Pasar
\nSenen traders offering nine staple foods at low prices. (07)<\/p>",
