The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has disclosed that
the recovery process for KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, who became a
victim of an acid attack, is estimated to take up to two years due to
the complexity of the injuries sustained. Saurlin P. Siagian,
Commissioner for Monitoring and Investigation at Komnas HAM, stated that
a medical team’s in-depth assessment showed that Andrie’s injuries are
classified as burns from a strong acid chemical. “Surgeries are still
ongoing and are estimated to continue for the next six months to two
years for recovery,” said Saurlin on Thursday (26/3/2026). He explained
that the first six months are a crucial phase in determining the
direction of recovery, particularly to ensure the stability of the wound
condition and the body’s response to further medical interventions.
Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Commissioner for Mediation at Komnas HAM, added
that the medical handling carried out so far has been intensive and
measured. However, certain conditions, especially on the victim’s right
eye, are still in the analysis stage, so the final developments cannot
yet be concluded. “It cannot yet be determined whether there will be
improvement or deterioration, as it is still in process,” he said.
",
