Reconstruction of Ciracas murder to be kept secret<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): In order to avoid possible attacks on the
\nsuspects by angry mobs, the reconstruction of the Ciracas
\nkillings may not be carried out at the crime site, says a senior
\npolice officer.<\/p>\n
\"It's not a good idea to hold the reconstruction there, as the
\nsituation is still simmering,\" secretary to chief of the Greater
\nJakarta Police Crime Investigation Directorate, Lt. Col. Edi
\nDarnadi, told The Jakarta Post yesterday.<\/p>\n
According to Edi, the reconstruction may take place at a
\nsimilar location, but he refused to reveal where and when that
\nwould be.<\/p>\n
\"The reconstruction will not be carried out this week,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The murder of a housewife and her three young children from
\nBambu Apus, East Jakarta, on Monday last week have ignited public
\nanger.<\/p>\n
Soon after the police announced the arrest of the suspects,
\nwhich were the victims' neighbors, over the weekend local
\nresidents destroyed the suspects' houses.<\/p>\n
The angry mob also burned and destroyed other houses belonging
\nto the suspects' relatives or those believed to know of the
\nmurder plot but failed to report to the police. Police officers
\nwere also attacked by the mob when they were unable to break
\nthrough police lines in the area.<\/p>\n
Thousands of people visiting the crime site stoned and burned
\nthe suspects' house located about 100 meters from the victims'
\nhouse. Two other nearby houses and a number of police officers
\nwere also attacked by the angry crowd.<\/p>\n
The intense public response is forcing the police to consider
\nanother location for the reconstruction.<\/p>\n
Police have blocked all the entrances to the immediate area
\nsince Tuesday in order to avoid further serious destruction.<\/p>\n
The residents, afraid of possible attacks by the mob, have put
\nsigns on their walls reading: \"We are not the suspects'
\nrelatives\" or \"This is not the property of the suspects.\"<\/p>\n
Psychiatrist<\/p>\n
A police officer, who asked not to be named, said yesterday
\nthat the main suspect, identified as Filipus, probably has a
\nmental problem. \"The fact that he asked his son and nephews to
\nkill the woman and children is evidence that there is something
\nwrong with him,\" the officer said.<\/p>\n
The officer said that Filipus had not yet described how he
\nmutilated the victims during interrogation. \"Police may need a
\npsychiatrist to accompany him.\"<\/p>\n
According to the officer, many are unable to understand how
\nthe suspects could brutally kill the 31-year-old housewife and
\nher three children, aged two, four and eight, just because of
