A driver named Hafiz Mahendra, operating a Toyota Calya vehicle\nrecklessly and driving against traffic on Gunung Sahari Street in\nCentral Jakarta, has entered a new phase of investigation.<\/p>\n
Hafiz has now been designated as a suspect for possessing sharp\nweapons and forging vehicle registration plates.<\/p>\n
Following the incident, police searched Hafiz\u2019s vehicle and\ndiscovered a toy firearm as well as sharp weapons including a machete\nand dagger. Additionally, four fake licence plates were found in the\nvehicle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driver has been designated as a suspect for possession of sharp\nweapons, including fraudulent vehicle registration plate data and\nfalsification of documents,\u201d said Metro Jaya Police Public Relations\nDirector Kombes Budi Hermanto to journalists on Friday (27\nFebruary).<\/p>\n
Budi stated that Hafiz is currently being held at Central Jakarta\nMetro Police Station. He noted that investigators are still examining\nHafiz\u2019s motive for carrying sharp weapons in his vehicle.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether these sharp weapons were intended for other illegal\nactivities is still being investigated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
For possession of sharp weapons and forging licence plates, Hafiz\nfaces charges under Article 307 paragraph 1 and or Article 391 paragraph\n2 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of seven years\nimprisonment.<\/p>\n
Previously, Hafiz had been designated as a suspect for reckless\ndriving that endangered other road users. He was charged under Articles\n311 paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road\nTraffic and Transportation with a maximum sentence of four years\nimprisonment and a fine of 8 million rupiah.<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Reynold Hutagalung stated\nthat Hafiz engaged in reckless driving and drove against traffic after\nbeing found using fake licence plates. He said the driver immediately\nfled when stopped by officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was suspected of using fake licence plates on Gunung Sahari\nStreet and was stopped by officers including Aiptu Basri and Aipda\nJimber,\u201d said Reynold on Wednesday (25 February).<\/p>\n
