Recalcitrant developers warned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said that the city
\nadministration would continue to take firm action against
\ndevelopers who neglected their obligation to build public and
\nsocial facilities in each of the housing complexes they
\nconstruct.<\/p>\n
\"The city will continue to take tough action against those
\ndelinquent developers,\" Surjadi said at City Hall on Wednesday.
\nHe did not give details of the kinds of punishments such
\ndevelopers would face.<\/p>\n
\"There is no use revealing everything to the press because our
\njob is to make sure that the regulation is obeyed,\" Surjadi said.<\/p>\n
In the past the city administration has, on a number of
\noccasions, temporarily refused to issue new building permits to
\nthe developers, who have failed to build public and social
\nfacilities as required.<\/p>\n
Recently, the North Jakarta mayoralty stopped issuing new
\nbuilding permits to developer PT Summarecon Agung. A few days
\nlater the East Jakarta mayoralty followed North Jakarta's
\nexample, refusing to issue further permits to the developer of
\nthe Concord housing estate.<\/p>\n
Surjadi said that he would investigate a claim made by PT
\nModernland Realty Ltd that the developer had the right to
\nappropriate about 47 hectares of land. The company made the claim
\nin response to a statement made by East Jakarta Mayor Sudarsono,
\nwho said, according to the Jayakarta daily, that PT Modernland
\nRealty Ltd had the right to appropriate only seven hectares of
\nland.<\/p>\n
Modernland is currently building about 1,400 houses on a
\nsingle plot in Cakung, East Jakarta. (yns)<\/p>",
