Rebel governor's wife arrested<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH: The wife of a senior rebel commander was among
\nfour guerrillas arrested on Monday during a raid on a rebel
\nhideout at Manggeng in Southwest Aceh district, military
\nspokesman Lt. Col. Asep Sapari said.<\/p>\n
The woman named Yusna Rahaini is the wife of the local Free
\nAceh Movement (GAM) commander, Abdul Rahman, Sapari said.<\/p>\n
He also said that four separate clashes between troops and
\nrebels erupted in Aceh but no one was killed.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, police in the neighbouring North Sumatra province
\nhad arrested seven men who had been selling automatic weapons to
\nGAM rebels, said Brigadier General Sunarko Danu Ardanto, a
\nnational police spokesman.<\/p>\n
He said the seven had in the past purchased the weapons --
\nmostly Kalashnikov rifles -- from distributors in Thailand.
\nPolice are still hunting for 11 other accomplices of the seven,
\nArdanto said.<\/p>\n
The government last May imposed martial law in Aceh and
\nlaunched a huge operation to crush GAM rebels, who have been
\nfighting for an independent state on the tip of Sumatra island
\nsince 1976.<\/p>\n
More than 1,300 guerrillas have been killed and 2,000 others
\nhave been arrested or have surrendered since then, the military
