A motorcyclist dubbed a \u2018tough guy\u2019 who blocked and damaged an\nambulance in Depok last weekend failed to live up to his bravado after\nbeing arrested by the police. Authorities apprehended a man who\nobstructed and vandalised an ambulance in Sukmajaya, Depok, West Java,\non Sunday (10\/5).<\/p>\n
The perpetrator, with initials ML, was arrested on Sunday around\n10:50 PM WIB on Jalan Jati Raya, Sukamaju, Cilodong, Depok. He was\ncaught less than 24 hours after the vandalism incident occurred and went\nviral on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe perpetrator was arrested less than 24 hours after the case\noccurred,\u201d said Deputy Head of Public Relations for Metro Depok Police,\nAKP Made Budi, to reporters on Monday (11\/5).<\/p>\n
Made stated that the arrest was based on a report from the ambulance\ncrew on Sunday night. In the report, the complainant explained that the\nincident began when the ambulance was en route to pick up a traffic\naccident victim.<\/p>\n
Quoting from detik.com, the ambulance driver who was blocked and\nwhose vehicle was damaged, Musyaffa, explained that they reported the\nincident and refused to settle because they wanted to deter anarchic\nacts, especially against emergency vehicles.<\/p>\n
Musyaffa said they had filed a police report (LP) regarding the\nperpetrator\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, like this, if we see it, this incident isn\u2019t just about blocking\nthe ambulance, it\u2019s already destruction or anarchism. So we remain\ncommitted to this, that\u2019s why after we considered it, we decided to file\na report or LP,\u201d said Musyaffa on Monday (11\/5).<\/p>\n
He said that the perpetrator\u2019s family had attempted to mediate with\nthe ambulance crew from the Al Baari Foundation. However, Musyaffa\nadded, the ambulance side still chose to pursue the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen, after that, even though up to now the family has started\nconfirming to carry out family mediation, but from the Al Baari\nFoundation, we all remain committed to continuing this case,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s it [continuing the legal process for deterrent effect]. You\nsee, from what has happened before, when an LP is filed and then they\nmake clarifications and sign a peace agreement on stamp duty, like an\napology and settlement. But we find it tiring\u2014annoying, yes.\nCoincidentally, we are the victims, so we are committed to continuing\nthis case,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Case Chronology<\/p>\n
The anarchic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, around 11:18 AM\nWIB on Jalan Moch Nail, Bakti Jaya Village, Sukmajaya District, Depok\nCity.<\/p>\n
At that time, explained Musyaffa, the ambulance was heading to pick\nup a single-vehicle accident patient in Cilodong, Depok.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe chronology is that at that time we were going to pick up a\npatient, yes. A single accident patient in Cilodong,\u201d Musyaffa\nrevealed.<\/p>\n
Since the foundation\u2019s office managing the ambulance is located\ninside a housing complex, they are accustomed to not sounding the siren\nuntil reaching public roads. Instead, said Musyaffa, the ambulance\ndriver only used the horn and turned on the rotator as an emergency\nsignal.<\/p>\n
However, according to Musyaffa, the perpetrator did not accept the\nambulance\u2019s sound. The perpetrator tried to stop the ambulance, leading\nto verbal abuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere, the perpetrator probably didn\u2019t accept the jumping that we\ndid, the short siren sound that we turned on. Finally, the perpetrator\ntried to stop us, stop us, then all sorts of abuse,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Musyaffa said he had tried to explain to the perpetrator that the\nambulance is a priority vehicle. Whether there is a patient or not, the\nambulance is allowed to sound the siren.<\/p>\n
Not accepting the explanation, the perpetrator chased the ambulance\nagain. There, continued Musyaffa, the ambulance was kicked and damaged\nrecklessly, along with threats from the perpetrator.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut after the first scene of the incident, then the perpetrator\nchased again at the second scene. That\u2019s where the destruction happened,\ntrying to kick and hit various parts of the vehicle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police Actions<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Made Budi, Deputy Head of Public Relations for Metro Depok\nPolice, explained that as a result of the blocking and vandalism\nincident, the victim\u2019s ambulance suffered several damages, including\ndents.<\/p>\n
The perpetrator reported the ambulance blocking and vandalism\nincident to the Depok police on Sunday night. From the report, the\npolice conducted an investigation to identify the perpetrator and\narrested him at his residence.<\/p>\n
\u201cAround 10:50 PM WIB, the perpetrator was successfully secured while\nwith a witness, his brother-in-law, at his residence on Jl Jati Raya,\nSukamaju Village, Cilodong District, Depok City,\u201d said Made.<\/p>\n
After the arrest, the perpetrator, witness, and the motorbike used as\nevidence were secured and brought to Metro Depok Police Headquarters for\nfurther investigation.<\/p>\n
Police have designated the motorcyclist with initials ML, who went\nviral for obstructing an ambulance in Sukmajaya, Depok, as a suspect.
