RDC holds training for medical attendants<\/p>\n

The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF)
\nis seeking to improve Asian physiotherapists in a four-day
\nmedical seminar organized by the Jakarta-based Regional
\nDevelopment Center (RDC) beginning on Monday.<\/p>\n
\"Physiotherapists and doctors play an important part in the
\ndevelopment of athletics. This seminar is expected to give the
\nparticipants information and knowledge, which they can apply in
\ntheir respective countries,\" Ria Lumintaurso, RDC chairman, told
\nreporters after the commencement of the seminar at the Century
\nHotel here.<\/p>\n
\"They need to upgrade their medical skills as well as exchange
\ninformation on the issue,\" Ria said.<\/p>\n
The IAAF Medical Seminar for Physiotherapists, which will run
\nuntil Thursday, presents main lecturer Dr. John Ronsone of the
\nUnited States and co-lecturer David A.W. Kaitech of Singapore.<\/p>\n
Fourteen physiotherapists and medical doctors from 11 of the
\nRDC's 19 members are taking part in the seminar.<\/p>\n
The participating countries are India, Indonesia, Iran, Laos,
\nMalaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines
\nand Singapore.<\/p>\n
Indonesia is represented by Ermita Eliyas, Sri Nilawati,
\nGempol and Soetoto. The first three are physiotherapists at the
\nIndonesian Amateur Athletics Association (PASI).<\/p>\n
Warning of the high level of injuries that athletes can
\nsuffer, David Kaitech emphasized the importance of the seminar
\nwith a view to improving the management of athletes.<\/p>\n
\"The number of injuries remains very high. Apart from the
\nseverity of the injuries, recovery also depends on the level of
\nskills of physiotherapists,\" Kaitech, who is vice-president of
\nthe Singaporean Masseurs' Association, told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
\"We hope this seminar will equip them with reliable knowledge
\non how to manage athlete,\" he said.<\/p>",
