        "content": "<p>RDC holds training for medical attendants<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF)<br>\nis seeking to improve Asian physiotherapists in a four-day<br>\nmedical seminar organized by the Jakarta-based Regional<br>\nDevelopment Center (RDC) beginning on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\"Physiotherapists and doctors play an important part in the<br>\ndevelopment of athletics. This seminar is expected to give the<br>\nparticipants information and knowledge, which they can apply in<br>\ntheir respective countries,\" Ria Lumintaurso, RDC chairman, told<br>\nreporters after the commencement of the seminar at the Century<br>\nHotel here.<\/p>\n<p>\"They need to upgrade their medical skills as well as exchange<br>\ninformation on the issue,\" Ria said.<\/p>\n<p>The IAAF Medical Seminar for Physiotherapists, which will run<br>\nuntil Thursday, presents main lecturer Dr. John Ronsone of the<br>\nUnited States and co-lecturer David A.W. Kaitech of Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen physiotherapists and medical doctors from 11 of the<br>\nRDC's 19 members are taking part in the seminar.<\/p>\n<p>The participating countries are India, Indonesia, Iran, Laos,<br>\nMalaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines<br>\nand Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is represented by Ermita Eliyas, Sri Nilawati,<br>\nGempol and Soetoto. The first three are physiotherapists at the<br>\nIndonesian Amateur Athletics Association (PASI).<\/p>\n<p>Warning of the high level of injuries that athletes can<br>\nsuffer, David Kaitech emphasized the importance of the seminar<br>\nwith a view to improving the management of athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\"The number of injuries remains very high. Apart from the<br>\nseverity of the injuries, recovery also depends on the level of<br>\nskills of physiotherapists,\" Kaitech, who is vice-president of<br>\nthe Singaporean Masseurs' Association, told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope this seminar will equip them with reliable knowledge<br>\non how to manage athlete,\" he said.<\/p>",
