While watching the RCTI program Gara-Gara on Saturday, Oct. 8,
\n1994 at 6 p.m., we were shocked to hear an actor repeatedly use
\nthe Arabic, Islamic, phrase Alhamdulillah, so that the sacred
\nword sounded funny. We wonder whether RCTI is aware the word
\nAlhamdulillah is related to the name of Almighty God (Allah). It
\nshould not be used improperly, as it was in the show.<\/p>\n
We deeply deplore the matter and hope that RCTI makes an
\neffort to avoid such a thing in the future.<\/p>\n
We contacted RCTI while the play was still on we got the
\nimpression that RCTI did not feel any concern about it. Our first
\ncall was received by a security guard and we were immediately cut
\noff. The second call was also received by a security guard and,
\nthis time, we were told to contact the Production House which was
\nresponsible for the program. Still feeling dissatisfied, we
\ncontacted RCTI's Public Relations department on Oct. 10, 1994.
\nThe security person hung up after telling us all the staff were
\nbusy.<\/p>\n
As avid watchers of RCTI programs, we tried to contact RCTI
\nagain. We were put through to a number of departments before
\nfinally being taken by a Mr. Agus (from the Marketing
\nDepartment?). Mr. Agus thanked us for our information.<\/p>\n
Having watched the program we cannot help but feel that moral
\nerosion is prevailing and are people have the tendency to use
\nsacred word with no thought behind their actions.<\/p>\n

On behalf of RCTI, we would like to thank Mr. Mohtar for his
\nletter dated Oct. 9, 1994, concerning his comments on RCTI's
\nprogram Gara-Gara shown on Oct. 8, 1994.<\/p>\n
We apologize that the dialog gave the impression of making fun
\nof a sacred word and had insulted Islam. But frankly, we did not
\nhave any intention to do so, and have asked the Production House
\nto seriously look into the matter.<\/p>\n
We would also like to offer our apologies for the failure of
\nour security guard to deal with you properly. For your
\ninformation, the Public Relations department can be contacted for
\nany problems that might crop up in the future.<\/p>\n
