RCTI program From Republika While watching the RCTI program Gara-Gara on Saturday, Oct. 8, 1994 at 6 p.m., we were shocked to hear an actor repeatedly use the Arabic, Islamic, phrase Alhamdulillah, so that the sacred word sounded funny. We wonder whether RCTI is aware the word Alhamdulillah is related to the name of Almighty God (Allah). It should not be used improperly, as it was in the show. We wonder whether RCTI is aware the word
Alhamdulillah is related to the name of Almighty God (Allah). It
should not be used improperly, as it was in the show.

We deeply deplore the matter and hope that RCTI makes an
effort to avoid such a thing in the future.

We contacted RCTI while the play was still on we got the
impression that RCTI did not feel any concern about it. Our first
call was received by a security guard and we were immediately cut
off. The second call was also received by a security guard and,
this time, we were told to contact the Production House which was
responsible for the program. Still feeling dissatisfied, we
contacted RCTI's Public Relations department on Oct. 10, 1994.
The security person hung up after telling us all the staff were
busy.

As avid watchers of RCTI programs, we tried to contact RCTI
again. We were put through to a number of departments before
finally being taken by a Mr. Agus (from the Marketing
Department?). Mr. Agus thanked us for our information.

Having watched the program we cannot help but feel that moral
erosion is prevailing and are people have the tendency to use
sacred word with no thought behind their actions.

WAHYUDI MOHTAR

Jakarta

RCTI responds

From Republika

On behalf of RCTI, we would like to thank Mr. Mohtar for his
letter dated Oct. 9, 1994, concerning his comments on RCTI's
program Gara-Gara shown on Oct. 8, 1994.

We apologize that the dialog gave the impression of making fun
of a sacred word and had insulted Islam. But frankly, we did not
have any intention to do so, and have asked the Production House
to seriously look into the matter.

We would also like to offer our apologies for the failure of
our security guard to deal with you properly. For your
information, the Public Relations department can be contacted for
any problems that might crop up in the future.

ERWIN ARIODARMA

Public Relations

RCTI

Jakarta
",
