        "content": "<p>'RCTI' postpones staff dismissals<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Privately owned television station RCTI decided<br>\nto postpone planned dismissals following a meeting with employees<br>\non Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The station's public relations manager, Eduard Depari, said<br>\nthe dismissals were postponed until an agreement could be reached<br>\nbetween management and employees.<\/p>\n<p>\"We agreed to postpone the layoffs after we talked with the<br>\nemployees' representatives, who urged the planned dismissals be<br>\ncanceled,\" Eduard told Antara on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said that in the meeting, which was attended by Alex<br>\nKomara, the station's director of operations, the employees were<br>\nurged to understand the station's financial difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>According to Eduard, dismissals were the station's final<br>\noption after struggling to survive the past two years amid the<br>\neconomic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have put in place efficiency measures, including halting<br>\nthe purchase of foreign films, temporarily capping salaries,<br>\ncutting the directors' salaries and giving no salaries to the<br>\ncompany's commissioners,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Eduard said the station might dismiss 20 percent of<br>\nits 620 regular employees, not the 30 percent which had been<br>\nannounced earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, five dismissed RCTI employees went to the Jakarta<br>\nLegal Aid Institute on Thursday for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Rini, a lawyer at the institute, said an employee<br>\nfrom the station's inventory department was dismissed without<br>\nseverance pay.<\/p>\n<p>\"We would like to invite management to discuss the matter,\"<br>\nRini told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, three people claiming to represent 80 RCTI<br>\nemployees also visited the institute seeking legal advice.
