'RCTI' directors replaced in shake-up<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The entire board of directors of private
\ntelevision station Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) was
\ndismissed on Tuesday and replaced by Nenny Soemawinata, former
\ngeneral manager of another private TV station ANteve.<\/p>\n
"This is the unanimous decision of PT Bimantara Citra and PT
\nRajawali Wira Bhakti Utama, both owners of RCTI," RCTI public
\nrelations manager Eduard Depari said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
PT Bimantara Citra is a publicly listed company, while PT
\nRajawali Wira Bhakti Utama is a private firm owned by businessman
\nPeter Sondakh.<\/p>\n
"RCTI needs fresh blood in this time of crisis," Eduard told
\nThe Jakarta Post in reply to a question about the reason behind
\nthe management shake-up.<\/p>\n
He said Nenny was for the time being the station's sole
\ndirector, temporarily replacing president director M.S. Ralie
\nSiregar, vice president director and director of operations Alex
\nKumara, marketing director R. Hardiyanto and finance director
\nIshar Baharuddin.<\/p>\n
"To my knowledge, RCTI shareholders are currently looking for
\nthree other directors... let's see what happens next."<\/p>\n
Two RCTI senior executives said the entire television crew
\nwere "deeply saddened", particularly by the dismissal of Alex
\nKumara.<\/p>\n
Alex, who took part in establishing RCTI and had personally
\nconducted feasibility studies on the television station as a
\nbusiness entity, had worked for the station for 12 years.<\/p>\n
"He is an RCTI man. He is a man with a technical background,
\nthe man for programming, for production and public relations.
\nThis dismissal is just a cruel power play," said one executive,
\nwho spoke on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n
"If Alex is not reinstated as RCTI vice president director or
\ngiven a more senior role at the station, his staff and crew
\nmembers are ready to quit."<\/p>\n
The executive added that RCTI shareholders must take the
\n"warning" seriously.<\/p>\n
Another RCTI senior executive said that Alex's dismissal was
\nthe result of Ralie's nine-year campaign to "get rid" of Alex.<\/p>\n
"Ralie has the backing of Bimantara Citra. From the very first
\nday Ralie stepped into RCTI nine years ago, he has been trying to
\nget Alex out of the way," said the senior executive, who also
\nspoke on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n
When asked why Ralie should be sacked as RCTI president, the
\nexecutive said that Ralie had recently been offered a seat on the
\ncompany's board of commissioners.<\/p>\n
"Ralie will accept," the executive said.<\/p>\n
He added that if RCTI investors made an offer to reinstate
\nAlex in his old position, Alex would seriously consider the
\noffer.<\/p>\n
"Alex knows that he was the one who built the station from
\nscratch. He will consider it," the executive said.<\/p>\n
Eduard also said that M. Tahril Sapi'e, a former member of the
\nfirm's board of commissioners, had replaced former president
\nSoeharto's son Bambang Trihatmodjo as RCTI chief commissioner.<\/p>\n
Yunardi, the incumbent director of GSM (global system for
\nmobile telecommunications) provider PT Excelcomindo Pratama,
\nwhich is owned by PT Rajawali Wira Bhakti Utama, replaced
\ncommissioner Sugianto Himawan, Eduard said.<\/p>\n
Old faces at the board of commissioners are entrepreneurs
\nPeter Sondakh and Edi Nalapraya.<\/p>\n
"Those removed from the RCTI board of commissioners are
\nentrepreneurs Indra Rukmana, Peter Gontha and Rosano Barak,"
