Ratelindo launches new communications service<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Radio Telephone Indonesia (Ratelindo), a
\nprivate fixed-cellular radio telephone operator, introduced here
\nyesterday a wireless data communications service.<\/p>\n
The new service, called Data Ratelindo, was launched by
\nDirector General of Post and Telecommunications Djakaria
\nPurawidjaja who also awarded yesterday a certificate for the
\ncompany's operational worthiness.<\/p>\n
Ratelindo is a joint venture company owned by PT Bakrie
\nElectronics Company (BEC) of the Bakrie Group and state-owned PT
\nTelkom.<\/p>\n
Ratelindo, which began operations four years ago, is the first
\nfixed-cellular radio telephone operator in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Data Ratelindo, which is currently only applicable in Jakarta
\nand West Java, will allow users to operate data communications
\nlike facsimiles, electronic mailing, paging, Automatic Teller
\nMachine (ATM) transactions and credit card authorizations.<\/p>\n
Company president, Hardianto Kamarga, said the new service
\nwould also include telemetry, trucking and field services.<\/p>\n
Kamarga also signed yesterday several agreements for the new
\nservice application with Ratelindo's counterparts including
\nRadnet Internet provider PT Rahajasa Media Internet; BCC; Bank
\nNusa; PT Jasa Jejaring Wasantara and PT Praweda Ciptakarsa
\nInformatika of the Soedarpo Group.<\/p>\n
Data Ratelindo, which is targeted to operate nationwide, works
\nat the frequency of between 825 Megahertz and 835 Mhz with a
\nspeed of 19.2 kilobytes per second. The facility is equipped with
\na leading network protocol allowing any operational system to use
\nData Ratelindo.<\/p>\n
Ratelindo has installed 38 cell sites to improve its service
\nin the greater Jakarta area. (icn)<\/p>",
