REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The first motor vehicle-free day (HBKB) or
car free day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta was crowded
with thousands of residents exercising on Sunday (10/5/2026). The
Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the event will become a
routine agenda starting 1 June 2026. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said
the CFD in the Rasuna Said area was held to welcome the 499th
anniversary of Jakarta City while introducing the new face of the area
as a city icon. “The first is Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, why is it
held on Rasuna Said Street? We want to show the public that Jakarta is
improving to have a new icon on this street,” said Pramono on Jalan HR
Rasuna Said on Sunday (10/5/2026) morning. The Jakarta Provincial
Government is currently still carrying out arrangements in the Rasuna
Said area, including the dismantling of hundreds of monorail poles that
have been neglected for decades. Road and sidewalk arrangements are also
still ongoing and targeted to be completed in June 2026. “It’s not
finished yet, but next month it will definitely be completed,” said
Pramono. According to Pramono, residents’ enthusiasm was evident from
the morning. He claimed to have directly toured to see community
activities utilising the new public space. The Jakarta Provincial
Government also plans to make the Rasuna Said CFD a weekly routine
activity. “And earlier, friends must have seen the atmosphere of the car
free day we held here, which started at 05.30 the same as in
Sudirman-Thamrin, it will be effectively carried out from 1 June,” he
said. Several residents welcomed the presence of the new CFD location.
Imas, a Manggarai resident, admitted it was easier to access Rasuna Said
compared to the Sudirman-Thamrin area. “I used to join but in Sudirman,
here it’s closer to home,” she said while running with her child.
Another resident, Ayu, also assessed that the presence of CFD Rasuna
Said provides a new alternative sports space for Jakarta residents. “I’m
in Kuningan, so it’s indeed closer here. Happy there’s a new location,
so the choice isn’t just going there (Sudirman), here too. Residents in
East Jakarta are also closer here,” said Ayu. Nevertheless, she assessed
that traffic arrangements still need to be improved because several
Transjakarta buses were seen having difficulty passing due to residents
crossing haphazardly. “Yes, that might need to be improved, perhaps by
increasing the number of guards so that unwanted things don’t happen,”
she said.
",
