        "content": "<p>Rare orchid found in Irian<\/p>\n<p>NABIRE, Irian Jaya: Researchers have found a species of orchid<br>\nwhich they believe to be the world's most rare, Antara reposted.<\/p>\n<p>The orchid is the shape of a shoe and is predominantly brown<br>\nand yellow, members of the Irian Jaya chapter of the Indonesian<br>\nAssociation of Orchids said.<\/p>\n<p>Chapter Secretary Cessy Manuputty declined to disclose the<br>\nexact location where the orchid, whose Latin name is<br>\nPaphiopedilum Praestans, was found, for fears of attracting<br>\nunscrupulous collectors.<\/p>\n<p>Cessy said that researchers are now working on the possibility<br>\nof farming the orchid species because they could potentially<br>\nbecome a major income earner for people in the Paniai regency.<\/p>\n<p>The association is already working on developing farms to grow<br>\nseveral other kinds of orchids, including Dendrobium<br>\nPhalaenopisis, Lasianthera and Antennatum in Wamena, Jayawijaya<br>\nregency.<\/p>\n<p>Cessy said there are at least 500 different orchid species<br>\nfound in Irian Jaya alone.
