Ransom asked for engineer's release<\/p>\n
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AFP): A government engineer was
\nkidnapped by Moro rebels last week in a coastal town north of
\nthis southern Philippine city, reports received by police
\nyesterday said.<\/p>\n
Rameo Laureta, 37, was kidnapped last Thursday by rebels of
\nthe Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in the town of
\nBaliguian, said Senior Superintendent Merlito Te, police
\nprovincial director.<\/p>\n
The rebels are demanding 300,000 pesos ($11,538) from
\nLaureta's relatives for his release, the report said.<\/p>\n
Laureta's abduction came a day before the release Friday of
\ntwo oil company workers kidnapped by Moslem bandits. Their
\nrelease, with no ransom paid, was negotiated by Moslem autonomous
\nregion governor Nur Misuari.<\/p>",
