Jakarta\u2019s Deputy Governor Rano Karno has confirmed that he will soon\nset up an office in the Old Town area to directly oversee the\nrevitalisation process of the historic district.<\/p>\n
Rano emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, along\nwith all stakeholders, is fully committed to reorganising the cultural\nheritage area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis seriousness is evident as we already have the Old Town\nRevitalisation Team, and God willing, at the right time, I myself, as\nthe person in charge, will set up an office in Old Town,\u201d Rano stated at\nthe DKI Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta on Thursday (9\/4).<\/p>\n
He conveyed this decision to relocate the leadership\u2019s operational\ncentre to provide assurance to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo here, we are giving confidence that the DKI Provincial Government\nis serious about developing Old Town,\u201d Rano said.<\/p>\n
To ensure the project runs effectively without bureaucratic hurdles,\nRano revealed that they have formed a working group (pokja) to expedite\ncross-sector coordination.<\/p>\n
Currently, the revitalisation team is finalising the arrangement of\nthe office that will serve as the command post in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the meantime, perhaps the place is already available, and our\nplan is to design the interior. Maybe in another month, we will move to\nOld Town,\u201d Rano said.<\/p>\n
Regarding the duration of his fieldwork, Rano stated that the\nrevitalisation team will remain vigilant until the area\u2019s management\nsystem is ready to be handed over to a special body.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe office setup, well, perhaps as long as Old Town is not yet\nready, because later Old Town should be managed like in Semarang, namely\nby a Management Body. So, we here will only be the revitalisation team\nto know the steps we need to take first,\u201d Rano explained.<\/p>\n
He also mentioned that the initial layout steps will integrate three\nmaster plans from various agencies to determine work priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe already have three master plans: the first from Citata, then from\nMRT, and then from Pembangunan Jaya. Now, we will collaborate them into\none. That will then become the priorities,\u201d Rano clarified.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the scope of this revitalisation is not limited and\nextends beyond just the legacy buildings.<\/p>\n
Improvements to supporting infrastructure in the surrounding areas,\nwhich are still in a concerning condition, will also be part of the\ndevelopment focus.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, what is called Old Town is actually not just in Old Town,\nbut from the Harmoni Gate onwards. Try to see, friends, the river, for\nexample, the canal and the pedestrian paths are still bad; that is also\npart of Old Town\u2019s development,\u201d Rano said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Rano assured that this preservation project is being\ncarried out professionally by engaging urban conservation experts.<\/p>\n
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has specifically appointed an\nacademic figure with a proven track record of successfully revitalising\nhistoric areas in Central Java.<\/p>\n
