Jakarta Deputy Governor and Central Executive Board Chairman of the\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Rano Karno has reaffirmed\nhis party\u2019s and the regional government\u2019s commitment to safeguarding\nworkers\u2019 welfare through various social protection programmes.<\/p>\n
Rano Karno made this statement during his speech at the PDIP\u2019s\ncommemoration of International Labour Day 2026, held in East Jakarta on\nSunday (3\/5).<\/p>\n
He explained that one of the social protection programmes is the\nKartu Pekerja Jakarta (KPJ), which has reached more than 59,000\nworkers.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince its launch in 2018, it has been continuously developed based\non input from labour unions. To date, more than 59,000 KPJ cards have\nbeen issued,\u201d Rano said.<\/p>\n
He stated that with the card, workers receive benefits such as free\naccess to public transport, food subsidies, affordable access to basic\nnecessities, and support for workers\u2019 family education.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition, the free public transport policy has been expanded to\n15 groups of society, including certain workers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Rano also said that workers are not merely driving\nelements but the backbone of the capital\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmid global economic uncertainties, we are reminded not to neglect\nworkers\u2019 rights. In reality, workers are the backbone that keeps\nJakarta\u2019s economic wheels turning,\u201d Rano Karno stated.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, PDIP Central Executive Board Chair for Labour and\nProtection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mercy Chriesty Barends\nexpressed appreciation to the workers who have become the backbone of\nindustry, drivers of the economy, and guardians of family\nlivelihoods.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom your hands, the wheels of the economy continue to turn.\nHowever, we must also be honest: there are still many challenges faced\nby workers today. Wages that are not yet fully decent, uncertain job\nsecurity, and increasing economic pressures,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Mercy stated that her party will continue to stand with the working\nclass.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis party was born from the womb of the people\u2019s struggle and will\ncontinue to be a home for the little people, including workers.
