Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, has\nemphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is serious about\nturning the capital into a cinema city, despite doubts from some\nquarters.<\/p>\n
\u201cJakarta is serious. Even if some friends in the film industry doubt\nme. We want to establish the Jakarta Film Commission, and I really want\nto make Jakarta a cinema city,\u201d he said in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Rano expressed optimism that DKI Jakarta can realise this ambition,\nsupported by various factors including fiscal resources. He stated that\nthe provincial government currently holds a Rp84 billion entertainment\ntax incentive, which is planned to be used as capital for film\nproduction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the past, there was a policy in Jakarta to return entertainment\ntaxes to producers to encourage more film productions. From 2025 until\nnow, we still hold around Rp84 billion. That\u2019s why I gathered producers\nthe other day. We want to return it to the producers for production,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Rano recounted the lack of banks willing to finance\nfilms because they are considered high-risk.<\/p>\n
Rano experienced this during his nearly 55 years in the film world.\nOver that period, he has participated in around 150 films, produced\nabout five films, and created soap operas including \u201cSi Doel Anak\nSekolahan\u201d.<\/p>\n
Based on 2024 data, the number of cinema-goers in Indonesia reached\n122 million people. About 85% of them watched Indonesian films. This\nfigure shows that national films have become the host in their own\ncountry and have significant economic potential.<\/p>\n
In a positive response, BI DKI also agrees that the film industry, as\npart of the creative economy subsector, has the potential to become a\nnew source of the economy, especially in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A concept for the \u201cJakarta Youth Film Festival\u201d has been proposed,\nwhich is a manifestation of cross-sector synergy in strengthening the\nfilm ecosystem, particularly by involving the younger generation as the\nmain actors.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Youth Film Festival 2026 carries the theme \u201cJakarta Our\nCity\u201d, serving as a creative space for the younger generation to develop\nwithin the film ecosystem, as well as a platform for actualising\nJakarta\u2019s young talents in line with the development of the creative\neconomy as one of the new sources of economic growth in DKI Jakarta.<\/p>\n
