Ramos leaves for trip to Americas<\/p>\n
MANILA (AFP): Philippine President Fidel Ramos left for a
\nworking trip to the United States and state visits to Panama and
\nMexico yesterday.<\/p>\n
Ramos, accompanied by his wife Amelita, Foreign Affairs
\nSecretary Domingo Siazon, Trade Secretary Cesar Bautista and
\nPress Secretary Hector Villanueva and a high-powered 86-member
\nbusiness delegation, departed Manila shortly after noon (0400
\nGMT) for Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
His trip is expected to generate US$2.75 billion worth of
\ntrade and investments for the Philippines, Bautista said.<\/p>\n
Ramos was due to arrive in Los Angeles later yesterday for a
\nfour-day visit combining meetings with California business
\nleaders and the largest gathering of the substantial American-
\nFilipino community in recent memory.<\/p>\n
He will also sign contracts with leading information
\ntechnology companies for software created in the Philippines to
\nhelp the world's computers make the leap to the year 2000.<\/p>",
