Ramadhan holidays<\/p>\n

All Moslems look forward to Ramadhan, a month full of
\nblessings. Aside from fulfilling the month long fast, charity in
\nevery form will be blessed by the Almighty. Many religious
\nboarding schools will be established overnight, religious sermons
\nwill be given at dawn, contemplation sessions will be held in
\nmosques by male devotees and religious tithes paid by affluent
\nMoslems and various educative bodies will fund activities for
\nyoung people in this month of absolution.<\/p>\n
As a student, I would like to have a longer holiday. This is
\nbecause other student friends and I like to contemplate (i'tikaf)
\nat praying time, and usually join religious boarding schools too.
\nIf the holiday was extended, students from other regions (Lampung
\nespecially) would not have to rush home to pay homage to their
\nparents.<\/p>\n
According to the 1996\/1997 school calendar, we are entitled to
\none holiday at the start of Ramadhan, two days before Idul Fitri
\nand eight days thereafter. This holiday schedule would certainly
\ninterfere with the educative activities (akhlak especially),
\nthereby cutting Ramadhan holidays short.<\/p>\n
We wish to draw the attention of the Minister of Religion and
\nother ministers to our plight, and we would appreciate their
\nconsideration of our request.<\/p>\n
We also hope increased religious activities during Ramadhan
\nwill spur the establishment of Islamic schools which fosters
\nstrong spiritual development for the sake of the nation and
\nreligion.<\/p>\n
