Ramadhan and terrorism<\/p>\n
Fasting is a very special religious duty. Even the descent of
\nKoran (Nuzulul Koran) took place during the fasting month.
\nUnlike other obligatory religious duties or those based on
\nProphet Muhammad's practices, whether or not you fast will be
\nknown only to you and Allah.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, when you do other religious duties such as
\nperforming obligatory ritual prayers, making the haj pilgrimage
\nor giving alms and practicing charity, these will be known to
\nyou, Allah and other people.<\/p>\n
In short, it is only you and Allah that will know whether or
\nnot you do your fasting correctly and in accordance with Islamic
\nlaw.<\/p>\n
In this fasting month, all Muslims are called upon to perform
\nthis religious duty in order to improve their moral quality so
\nthat they can impress non-Muslims as good, polite, corruption-
\nfree and tolerant people.<\/p>\n
During the fasting month, Muslims must also improve their
\nunderstanding of Islam to ensure that they will gage the right
\ninterpretation of the Islamic teachings.<\/p>\n
Regarding the allegation that Muslims are terrorists,
\nIndonesian Muslims must respond to it in a patient and non-
\nviolent manner. Those who hate to see the development of Islam in
\nIndonesia will provoke Muslims to resort to violence when
\nresponding to this allegation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, Indonesian Muslims must respond to this allegation
\nby demonstrating that their good conduct befits a polite and
\ndemocratic society. Who knows maybe there is a silver lining to
\nthis allegation, something that prompts Indonesian Muslims to
\nsave the country and pull it out of the ongoing multi-dimensional
\ncrisis.<\/p>\n
Life is the mystery of Allah. What we, human beings, can do is
\nto improve our morality by doing good things. This is the essence
\nof the holy fasting month of Ramadhan.<\/p>\n
