Indonesia’s National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo led a Ramadan gathering with ulama and community leaders in West Java, urging unity and national solidarity. He warned that fragile global conditions—cited the Gaza crisis and tensions in the Middle East—could impact Indonesia, including oil prices, and urged the nation to stay united and prepared.

West Java – The event was held at the West Java Regional Police
Headquarters on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Attending were West Java
Governor Dedi Mulyadi, West Java Police Chief Irjen Rudi Setiawan, and
leaders of Islamic mass organisations in West Java.

At the outset, General Sigit said that Indonesia is facing a global
situation that is not going well. “I honour you all,” he said, “on one
hand we all know that we are facing a situation that is not going well,
particularly due to the global situation whose implications can affect
the domestic situation.”

He said the impact of this unfavourable global situation must be
faced together. He did not want the world’s state to disrupt Indonesia’s
national aspirations. “That is what we must face together. It is not
possible to let all this happen and then disrupt what is the nation’s
aspirations, the national goals. Yet the reality is that escalation is
not diminishing but is worsening,” he said.

He also referred to events in Gaza, Palestine. He said President
Prabowo Subianto has played a role in helping to reconcile the Gaza
conflict to pave the way for Palestinian independence.

“However, in the course of events we see that the escalation is not
only around Gaza but has developed to Iran and then there have been
tit-for-tat moves and it has surfaced in several parts of the Middle
East, leading to a very significant escalation,” he said.

According to the Police Chief, the retaliatory attacks between Iran
and the United States-Israel have a global impact. One effect is oil
prices rising gradually. “Oil trade that has long passed through the
Strait of Hormuz is suddenly affected, which also causes shocks in
countries that rely on oil imports,” he said. “This is something we must
watch. The government is pursuing a variety of diplomatic steps to bring
these events to a close,” he added.

Therefore, General Sigit assured that the government continues to
strive to ensure the impact of the conflict does not become too large
for Indonesia. He also called on all Indonesians to unite and prepare
themselves for developments in the world.

He recalled the period of COVID-19 when Indonesia was hit by the
pandemic. He said then the government and the people united in mutual
cooperation to overcome the crisis.

“We remember that during COVID, all countries faced the same. But we
united—the people, the ulama, entrepreneurs, the security forces, the
government—together, gotong royong, and the problem was solved,” he
said. “The Indonesian economy contracted by around 2%, but with rapid
joint action we recovered; the same can be done in the current situation
if we all stand united.”
",
