Rains cut traffic lights, ups jams<\/p>\n

Heavy downpour over most part of the capital since Sunday night
\nswamped several traffic light control boxes, worsening traffic
\ncongestion during peak hours on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
Officers in charge of the main control panel room at City Hall
\nconfirmed that many traffic lights were not functioning due to
\nthe flooding.<\/p>\n
"Most of our colleagues are now out of the office to repair
\nthe damage," one of the officers told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
However, they refused to disclose how many traffic lights were
\nin affected and how severe the damage was.<\/p>\n
Pristono, head of the road infrastructure division with the
\nJakarta Transportation Agency, could not be reached for
\nconfirmation.<\/p>\n
Traffic light blackouts were seen on Jl. MT Haryono in Cawang,
\nEast Jakarta, Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta, Jl. Panjang in
\nWest Jakarta, and Jl. Basuki Rachmat and Jl. Otto Iskandardinata
\nin East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
A traffic accident involving a trailer truck and a minibus
\noccurred in front of Kartika Chandra Hotel on Cawang toll road
\nheading to Grogol, West Jakarta. The accident caused a long
\nlineup of up to seven kilometers, but no fatalities were
\nreported.<\/p>\n
The Post observed in the afternoon that most of the traffic
\nlights had returned normal.<\/p>\n
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency predicts the rainy days
\nwill linger up to mid March.<\/p>",
