Despite predictions of a severe Godzilla El Nino event in April 2026, recent reports from various Indonesian regions indicate ongoing rainfall, allowing farmers to continue planting activities without immediate drought impacts. The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, is proactively preparing by allocating Rp 3-4 trillion for a pompanisation programme involving 80,000 pump units to irrigate rain-fed rice fields during potential extreme dry spells. This collaborative effort with local governments and farmer associations underscores a unified approach to safeguard agricultural productivity amid climate challenges.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers
Harmony Association (HKTI), Sudaryono alias Mas Dar, stated that several
regions are still experiencing rain despite Indonesia being predicted to
be hit by the Godzilla El Nino in April 2026.

Mas Dar said that in the past few days, he had visited South Sumatra,
Jambi, up to Purwokerto in Central Java, and received reports from
Kalimantan.

“The intensity of the rain is still quite significant,” said Mas Dar
when met at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Jakarta on Monday
(27/4/2026).

The man who serves as Deputy Minister of Agriculture stated that so
far, the drought impact from the Godzilla El Nino has not been felt.

“Because the rain intensity is still good, farmers are eager to plant
immediately after harvest while the rain persists,” said Mas Dar.

Mas Dar mentioned that the prediction from the Meteorology,
Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is just a prediction.

Nevertheless, the government is still preparing anticipatory
measures, such as preparing tens of thousands of pump machines to
irrigate rice fields, preparing irrigation, and gathering hundreds of
regents.

“This is to mitigate how we anticipate this Godzilla El Nino.
Imagine, Godzilla El Nino. Fire comes out of its mouth. So we can
imagine how severe it will be,” said Mas Dar.

According to Mas Dar, in facing this Godzilla El Nino, the Ministry
of Agriculture is working hand in hand with HKTI, local governments, and
various related parties.

“We cannot, in difficult situations, blame others. We must anticipate
these difficulties by working and thinking together,” he stated.

Previously, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed that
the government is allocating Rp 3 to Rp 4 trillion for the agricultural
land pompanisation programme.

Pompanisation is being implemented so that rain-fed rice fields can
continue to produce during extreme drought periods due to the Godzilla
El Nino.

The Ministry of Agriculture, he said, will deploy 80,000 pump
units.

“That’s approximately Rp 3 trillion to Rp 4 trillion,” said Amran
when met at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday
(7/4/2026).
",
