        "content": "<p>Railway schedules changed to cut travel time<\/p>\n<p>Yuli Tri Suwarni, The Jakarta Post\/Bandung<\/p>\n<p>At least 16 main trains operating in Java will have new schedules<br>\nstarting on Jan. 17, which are expected to cut travel time and<br>\nreduce the number of delayed trains.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson of PT Kereta Api Indonesia, Noor Hamidi, said the<br>\nchange of schedules were in line with the completion of<br>\nconstruction work on some of the tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Among the tracks, include routes connecting Sukatani-<br>\nPadalarang in Bandung, Kebonromo-Sragen in Yogyakarta, and two<br>\nlines in the East Java town of Madiun -- Kedungbanteng-Walikukun,<br>\nand Kedungalar-Paron.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen trains that will have new schedules include<br>\nbusiness\/executive trains Argobromo Anggrek (Surabaya-Jakarta),<br>\nGajayana train (Malang-Jakarta), Bima train (Surabaya-Jakarta),<br>\nTurangga train (Bandung-Surabaya), Mutiara Selatan train<br>\n(Bandung- Surabaya), Argo Wilis (Bandung-Surabaya) and Lodaya<br>\ntrain (Bandung-Surakarta).<\/p>\n<p>For economy class trains, the new routes will affect Pasundan<br>\ntrain (Surabaya-Kiaracondong, Bandung) and Kahuripan train<br>\n(Padalarang in Bandung-Kediri in East Java).<\/p>\n<p>\"With the change of routes, we'll assure passengers that their<br>\ntrips will be at least 30 minutes shorter, even for trains such<br>\nas Turangga with the route connecting Bandung-Surabaya could be<br>\none hour faster,\" Hamidi told reporters in Bandung on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>A faster train trip is important, he added, because trains,<br>\nespecially long-distance ones, have to compete with airplanes<br>\nthat have a shorter flight time and now have cheaper tickets.<\/p>\n<p>He said the train company also aimed to reduce the number of<br>\ndelayed arrivals and departures.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003 the average delay was almost one hour and in 2004 20<br>\nminutes.<\/p>\n<p>According to company data, delayed trains cost the company<br>\nbetween Rp 25,000 and Rp 30,000 per minute.<\/p>",
