Rafsanjani to visit Indonesia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani will arrive
\nhere Thursday for a three-day state visit, Minister\/State
\nSecretary Moerdiono announced yesterday.<\/p>\n
During the visit, Rafsanjani will hold talks with President
\nSoeharto on Thursday on matters of regional, bilateral and
\ninternational importance, Moerdiono was quoted by the Antara news
\nagency as saying.<\/p>\n
Rafsanjani, who will be accompanied by his wife and a number
\nof his cabinet ministers, including Foreign Affairs Minister Ali
\nAkbar Velayati, will also meet with Indonesian ulemas.<\/p>\n
On Friday, the president of the Islamic republic will join
\nJakartan Moslems in Friday prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, and,
\nlater the same day, will visit the state-owned Nusantara Aircraft
\nIndustry (IPTN) in Bandung, West Java.<\/p>\n
He will conclude his visit Saturday with a press conference
\nand then leave Indonesia for Brunei Darussalam.<\/p>\n
Rafsanjani's itinerary reflects Iranian requests last year for
\nbetter trade ties and stronger cooperation in religious affairs
\nand education with Indonesia.<\/p>\n
During President Soeharto's visit to Iran late last year, the
\nIranian government stated its wish to have Indonesia's assistance
\nin establishing an aircraft assembling plant which will use
\ncomponents from IPTN.<\/p>\n
Iran also wanted to develop its shipbuilding industry with
\nassistance from Indonesia.<\/p>\n
In addition, Teheran has invited Indonesian Moslems to
\ncooperate with their Iranian brothers in religious affairs,
\neducation and small-scale industries. (swe)<\/p>",
