Radisson to expand its business in Asia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Radisson, an Australian-based hotel chain, plans
\nto establish 75 hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, including
\nIndonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, by the year 2000, an executive
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The company's managing director for Australia, Asia and South-
\nWest Pacific, David Boward, said in a statement made available
\nyesterday that the priority of its expansion program is to thrust
\ninto Asia.<\/p>\n
Radisson, which has teamed up with strategic partners
\nthroughout the region to develop hotels, will operate five hotels
\nin Indonesia in 1996.<\/p>\n
\"We researched a number of countries in Southeast Asia and we
\nfocused our expansion program on Indonesia and Malaysia due to
\ntheir political stability and strength of their economies which
\nwould continue to expand in the future,\" Boward said.<\/p>\n
Radisson opened its first hotel in Indonesia 1993.<\/p>\n
He said further expansion is targeted for properties in Hong
\nKong, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.<\/p>\n
Despite a rapid growth in Asia, Boward believes it is crucial
\nto Radisson's future to have a strong presence in Australia.<\/p>\n
\"At his point we are seeking a significant property in the
\nSydney market and to establish a presence in Canberra and the
\nGold Coast,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Radisson operates three properties in Sydney and one in each
\nof Melbourne, Perth, Cairns, Port Douglas, Brisbane and
\nNewscastle.<\/p>\n
Radisson currently operates hotels in over 300 locations in 39
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Radisson is a part of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, one of
\nthe major operating groups of Carlson Companies, Inc.,
