'Radio Australia'<\/p>\n
It was a great shock to learn the Australian government has
\ndecided to shut down Radio Australia's short wavelength
\nbroadcasts in Indonesian following a very long \"on air\" history
\nsince 1939.<\/p>\n
I do not mean the Indonesian media is less accurate and less
\nsatisfactory, rather I have been listening to Radio Australia and
\nits news broadcasts since 1973 as supplementary. My principle is
\nthat Indonesian people really know where our country is going
\nwhile outsiders do not. However, the Australian government's
\ndecision would surely disappoint its listeners in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Despite the fact that the relationship between Australia and
\nIndonesia is sometimes very tense, for example on the East Timor
\nissue, Radio Australia has won the hearts of its Indonesian
\nlisteners. Radio Australia has been bridging both nations in any
\nway possible. It would be wise for the Australian government to
\nreview the decision concerning this matter. Never in history have
\ntwo nations of different race, color, and religion been so well-
\nconnected due to the help of radio broadcasts despite the
\nvolatile relationship of its leaders.<\/p>\n
More importantly, in 1973 when I was still in high school I
\ndid gain fluency and grammatical skills thanks to Radio
\nAustralia's, program English for You broadcast four times a week.
\nMy gratitude to Radio Australia is beyond words. Other listeners
\nmay share the same opinion as mine.<\/p>\n
