        "content": "<p>Radar malfunction delays Garuda flights<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The radar system at Soekarno-Hatta International<br>\nairport malfunctioned again for an hour yesterday causing some<br>\ndelays of domestic and international flights, an airline source<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>An employee of Malaysia Airlines said one of its flights which<br>\nsupposed to take off at 11 a.m. was delayed an hour because of<br>\nthe radar malfunction.<\/p>\n<p>The radar first malfunctioned Wednesday night after being<br>\nstruck by lightning, causing long flight delays.<\/p>\n<p>The system started malfunctioning at about 6 p.m. and resumed<br>\nworking three hours later.<\/p>\n<p>Although airline staff have confirmed the malfunction and<br>\ndelays, none of the executives of state-owned firm PT Angkasa<br>\nPura, which manages the airport, were able to give details.<\/p>\n<p>Some of them even denied the radar system had failed and that<br>\nit had disrupted flights Wednesday and yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There was no radar malfunction in this airport today<br>\n(Thursday) or yesterday (Wednesday). I just heard about it from<br>\nyou,&quot; Asri, an officer in-charge, said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman for the national carrier Garuda Indonesia, Arief<br>\nHartanto, said at least 10 of its domestic and international<br>\nflights were delayed Wednesday due to the malfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Arief said the flights were delayed between an hour and three<br>\nhours.<\/p>\n<p>But no incoming Garuda flights were detoured to other airports<br>\ndue to the radar problem Wednesday, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;All the flights landed properly using manual landing<br>\nprocedures,&quot; Arief said.<\/p>\n<p>He could not estimate the cost of the delays but said Garuda<br>\nhad provided extra meals to passengers whose flights were<br>\ndelayed.<\/p>\n<p>A Singapore Airlines employee had said earlier that one of its<br>\nflights which was supposed to depart at 8 p.m Wednesday was<br>\ndelayed an hour due to the problem.
