However, nearly four years later, the\nOpenAI-owned chatbot is entering a new era. Millions of people are\nreportedly deciding to boycott ChatGPT, a movement organised under the\nwebsite QuitGPT.org. Its sole aim is to stop people from using ChatGPT.\n\u201cWe are organising American citizens and people around the world to stop\nusing ChatGPT,\u201d QuitGPT stated. On the site, the QuitGPT movement\nreferences an agreement between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the US\ngovernment. It claims the deal places users at risk from AI that\nbenefits the corporation. \u201cOpenAI agreed to let the Pentagon use the\ntechnology for any legal purpose, including killer robots and mass\nsurveillance,\u201d the movement wrote. In contrast, another AI giant,\nAnthropic, was able to refuse to provide unlimited access to the\nPentagon. That company prohibits the use of its AI for mass surveillance\nof US citizens or the production of AI weapons. Furthermore, the\nmovement highlights the relationship between OpenAI bosses and the\nDonald Trump administration. Altman and OpenAI president Greg Brockman,\nalong with his wife, are known to have donated to the MAGA\nInc.\u00a0foundation in support of Trump in 2025.
